My father was a personal injury attorney, and I followed in his footsteps. It’s a career that has been good to me, as well as my clients.
When you’re a kid, it’s easy to assume that your parents are perfect. They’re the ones who provide for you, take care of you and bring you up in their own way. When I was growing up, my father was always busy working. He would come home from the law office late at night and then wake up early the next day to go back there again.
Still, he made sure that his children were educated about certain things like health and safety rules or about how important it is to follow the law when it comes to dealing with other people. So when I got older and started thinking about what kind of career path I could choose for myself in life, it didn’t surprise me at all when my dad told me he thought I should become a personal injury attorney like him!
I’ve always had an interest in law, but I decided to go into personal injury law because of how much you can help people at one of the worst points in their lives. In a lot of cases, you’re helping someone who has been wronged and really needs help. They want to get back on their feet as soon as possible. With other areas of law, the types of cases may not be as personal or involve such serious injuries.
I think my personality has also helped me succeed in this area because I’m naturally methodical and analytical—I like figuring out problems on my own and coming up with solutions for them—and that’s important when it comes to practicing personal injury law because so many things are dependent on being able to build your own case from scratch while working closely with clients whose lives have been turned upside down by an accident or another situation outside their control.
The best part of my job is seeing the lives we’ve changed for the better. I feel like I’m making a difference when we get someone back on their feet and they’re able to start taking care of themselves again. As an attorney, I can help people through some pretty dark times.
The worst part about my job? Seeing people suffer because they’ve been injured and have no way to pay for care or treatment. It’s awful to listen to what they have been through, but it’s even worse when there’s nothing you can do about it except provide legal advice and hope that everything works out okay in court (which doesn’t always happen).
The most challenging part is dealing with insurance companies who try every trick in their book to deny claims or minimize payouts as much as possible
